SIMULTANEOUS RETROGRADES OF MERCURY AND VENUS

It’s been quite a time in these last weeks. As we approach Scorpio season, the intensity of that Pluto ruled time is palpable. Firstly, on October 15th, Pluto moved forward after being retrograde for 5 months. Pluto has resided fully in the sign of Aquarius for nearly 2 years and it has taken on the flavor of that sign. Aquarius is known for its innovation, independence and humanitarian qualities. But its energy is edgy, disruptive and sometimes chaotic. Pluto’s station direct in Aquarius brought forth a lot of this unstable energy that seeks to break us out of our comfort zones. I have felt a lot of agitation in the air, situations changing on a dime and general discomfort with moving through a typical day. During this time, we may feel fears emerge from nowhere, we may feel rattled, shaken and a disruption in our everyday life. This is due to Pluto's station in Aquarius shaking us out of the familiar to help us expand and be able to hold more in our lives. If we want to reach our goals, open a new path for ourselves and stop remaining small, we need to allow space for new energies. We all want to receive at greater capacity, but that also includes being uncomfortable as we move towards our new threshold. When we receive, we need to receive it all - not just the good stuff. The discomfort is an indication of growth. 

Venus is making her retrograde journey in Scorpio and on Friday October 23rd she will experience a conjunction from The Sun at 0° Scorpio. This joining of Venus and The Sun is always a feature of Venus's retrograde journey and usually happens midway through that six week period. This is known as an inferior conjunction and is the new Venus Star Point cycle which is a time for seeding what we desire, our values and our relationships. This is the time during the retrograde when she is closest to the Earth and then disappears from the skies until she returns as a morning star. Venus then inspires us to take that morning energy into our day for our relationships and creative projects. 

Sunday October 25th, she will re-enter her home sign of Libra. She steps back to help us review our one-to-one dynamics with others in our lives. She reveals all that has been sitting beneath the surface of our relationships and our values, bringing us more into balance and allowing our hearts to open. Venus will station direct on November 13th and remain in Libra until December 4th when she then re-enters Scorpio and finishes her travels through the shadows until January 7th. 

Meanwhile, Mercury will be entering its retrograde on October 24th, also in Scorpio. The planet of communication will be asking us to take a deeper look at our thought process, our self expression and our dealings with others. Mercury in Scorpio can be a little sarcastic, perhaps a little critical but also with a slightly darker sense of humor. It's a placement that loves to penetrate the information to arrive at the deepest truth. It's great for problem-solving and detective work. Any Mercury retrograde asks us to sit with the details, reconsider what we’ve learned, re-evaluate our position. We know that Venus and Mercury retrograde at the same time will always involve the “re’s” - renegotiate, review, reread, recall, re-establish - you get the point. This time period is one to think and think again, to revise our values - both how and what we value. 

The interesting thing about this is that Mercury and Venus will both station direct on November 13th. This is almost never the case. A double station of two inner planets within hours of each other is a profound moment. They have been running side by side in these last weeks and they have a story they are experiencing with one another. Mercury will station first at 5° of Scorpio, slightly ahead of a square to where Pluto will be sitting. This drives home a deep message about what we have been learning and understanding in the prior weeks. Information that was previously hidden or unavailable may now see the light. Secrets can be revealed. Meanwhile, Venus will move direct at 22° Libra which will be a smooth dialogue with the Mars Jupiter conjunction happening in Leo. This will encourage us to take action with the information we gathered during the retrogrades. And it's a reminder that when these two planets move forward it's a better time to take action rather than while they are still in their retrograde cycles. We will have more information when both planets move direct. That's why it's best to wait if you do need to take some action or make big decisions. The retrograde period is for reconsidering your stance and the decisions you need to make. Clarity will come as the planets move forward. It's better not to rush into anything. 

While I don’t believe this is a time of earth shattering transformation that will erase all of our problems, I do believe it’s a powerful turning point for each of us. Where do these retrogrades fall in your natal chart? What areas of your life are experiencing revisions? This is the time to use your intuition and insight and take it slowly as you consider adjustments you may need to make.
