CANCER NEW MOON & THE JULY CRADLE
My largest orchid - she’s never bloomed two stems of flowers before!
Greetings astrodarlings!
We are in a profound time of awakening, astrologically. If you’ve heard my Golden Astrologer podcast in recent weeks and months, you’ve heard me speak of the configurations that are aligning in the heavens during July. You know that I often write about the outer planets and their cycles. Throughout history, astrologers have watched the movement of the outer planets because they represent forces much larger than individual experience. The inner planets describe chapters of our personal lives; the outer planets describe the evolution of generations, the collective unconscious of our world. Most times in our own personal astrological charts the inner planets are in relationship to the outer planets by natal aspect or through transits, giving a deeper, more profound expression of our personality. But when the outer planets are in direct relationship by transit to one another, we witness something truly extraordinary.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve heard me speak about how the outer planets have all recently changed their location in the zodiac. This is a profound experience because rarely does this ever happen where all of the outer planets and Saturn, too - simultaneously change the signs they are inhabiting. Now, in July 2026, after these big changes, all of the outer planets are in a grand conversation with one another. Pluto has reached 4° Aquarius, Neptune has reached 4° Aries and Uranus has reached 4° Gemini. All of these planets are in a harmonious relationship with one another. When Jupiter joins this conversation as it reaches 4° Leo - opposite Pluto in Aquarius and in harmonious relationship to Uranus and Neptune, something phenomenal begins to happen. These planets are all in a geometric configuration that astrologers call a “basket” or a “cradle.” This configuration with these particular planets has not happened since about 500 years ago. Because of the outer planets long journeys, their relationships with each other are rare. When they come together in significant configurations, they often correspond with periods when humanity enters a new chapter.
Lately I have seen many astrology websites and social media posts speaking about André Barbault, one of the great astrologers of the 20th century, who studied outer planet cycles and their relationship to collective historical developments. His Cyclic Index work explored how planetary relationships correspond with major shifts in human consciousness, social structures and the unfolding story of civilization. He was also a pioneer in computerized astrology with Astroflash in 1967. Barbault’s 2014 book, The Value of Astrology described the 2026 Saturn-Neptune conjunction as a reblooming, a re-launch in civilization, the most benefic configuration of the 21st century. However, there is no true, referenced writing of him naming this July arrangement as “Barbault’s Basket” or any real reference of the Cyclic Index to to the July time period at all, as that index is a curve that can be plotted throughout decades.
The cradle formation in these planetary relationships is significant because it creates a container — a field where multiple transformative planetary energies are interacting simultaneously. It is not simply "four planets are connected." It is a moment when enormous archetypal forces begin speaking to each other — and humanity is invited to participate consciously rather than unconsciously. This is not entirely smooth and easy - as the opposition from Jupiter to Pluto is a challenging aspect that creates the impetus to use the energy available to us at this time. It gets us each into a space where we step forward with strong intention. Jupiter opposes Pluto only once every 6 years or so, with Jupiter expanding the experience of transformation governed by Pluto. The dynamic here is that Jupiter in Leo is asking us to open our hearts and any activity initiated here must be heart centered. I believe this is really the key to this whole arrangement of planets. What we are intending to grow and expand during this time must genuinely come from our hearts. Jupiter is speaking very nicely in a trine aspect to Neptune in Aries and then also smoothly through a sextile aspect to Uranus in Gemini. These timely relationships indicate a powerful awakening and true opening for communication, deep vision, closely held ideals and a restructuring of identity.
The middle to the end of July 2026 sees the most direct activity of these planetary relationships. On July 15th, Uranus will make a direct sextile to Neptune, opening the channels for innovative dialogue about spirituality, creative inspiration and meaningful action towards new ideas in our lives. On July 18th, only 3 days later, Uranus will then make the exact trine to Pluto. This is referencing the 1960s conjunction of those two planets and the transformative ideals that were seeded during that time. These two planets also met in a challenging square from 2012 to about 2016, creating the next level of ideology from the initial 1960’s relationship. Then between July 20th - 21st, Jupiter will contact all three outer planets, allowing us each to access these powerful transformative energies to create something new in our lives.
With the New Moon in its rulership, the nurturing sign of Cancer, the best use of all this energy is to plant new intentional seeds for what you wish to blossom in your life. This is not some gentle metaphor. Everything that is happening now is going to roll out over the next few months and into the next few years. I am deeply feeling that we are in a powerful turning point in each of our lives. Now more than ever, it is important to bring yourself to a breakthrough, to a profound change in your life and make decisions that will direct your path and how it unfolds. This is also a time to decide what you don't want in your life and let go of it. New Moons are generally times to initiate a new process in your life. This particular one in its own sign comes along with this powerful cradle of planets and it’s not an accident. This is an enormous opportunity for each of us and we need to take advantage of it.
These are, for the most part, flowing planetary aspects but they do expect our participation in taking some action towards our future. Saturn is not involved in this configuration so I don't see any real blockages or fears about taking initiative now. But we should not sit back idly and not make any decisions about how we want our future to be. Simultaneously, we shouldn't expect that our entire world is going to turn on a dime in the next week. Like I said on my podcast, I'm still going to get up in the morning and feed my cat. Each of us still have our daily lives to maintain. But outer planets demand deeper changes and they forge more profound paths forward. What we plant now will bear fruit in these next month and next two years. The relationship between these outer planets is going to be maintained in this way during this time. It's just that right now Jupiter is lighting the match in the fire sign of Leo and getting the initial processes moving.
What do you want to create or build for your life now? What has reached its limit and can no longer continue the way it has been? Where are you dissatisfied and need to change course? These planets don't just land in one sector of our astrological charts, it is over a number of different arenas in our lives.Various themes in each astrological chart will overlap and connect, creating new dynamics that are going to bring us opportunities and new possibilities. If you know your astrological chart, you know where these energies are unfolding for you. If not, this could be the perfect time to have an astrological session to make the best use of this energy. If you have any planets at 4° of any sign, especially the fixed signs of Leo and Aquarius, your horoscope will get a direct hit from this cradle of planets.
It’s a stellar week ahead and an invitation to create and open to new opportunities! Let’s get excited about what’s possible and use these energies to improve our lives. I’m always here for you, if you need.
With much love and gratitude,
Deb
